BBC Audiobooks is a great service that is brought to market by BBC Shop, the online retail portal for the British Broadcasting Corporation. This wonderful online shop is the perfect place to find everything you ever wanted to own related to any BBC program or production. With a wide range of great quality products and an easy-to-use website that is perfect for internet novices and veterans alike, this really is a great place to shop for some of the best audiobooks and audio products available. It is worth noting at the outset however, that as you might expect, this site caters only to UK-based users. Easily one of the biggest advantages of using a service like BBC Audiobooks is the sheer size of the library of books on offer for customers to choose from. As well as a wide collection of back-catalogue BBC Audiobooks and other products, the site also features the newest bestsellers and big hits in audiobooks and other audio products (including radio shows, comedy shows, box sets and more). Customers can shop by genre or category or check out the ‘favourites’ list to see what other customers are buying (often an indication of what’s popular at the moment in each particular category – great for gift ideas for birthdays or Christmas!). Finally, the ‘Pick of the Week’ gives customers a new promotion to enjoy each and every week, be it a big reduction on a particular product or group of products or an all-over discount on everything sold at the site. Unlike other sites we have looked at within this category, BBC Audiobooks does not offer a membership package and simply prices all products on an ‘a la carte’ basis. This lets customers pick and choose the products they want, just like at any other store. Unlike other services we have reviewed however, we were disappointed to note that BBC Audiobooks at the BBC Shop are not available in instant-download versions as they are at other locations (most notably at Audible.com and AudioGo). This is a shame, especially considering many users are now moving towards downloads in favour of CDs, given their ease and flexibility.

One of the best overall features of BBC Audiobooks is the level of service offered to all customers. Not only can shoppers be sure that the products they buy will be of great quality (given the fact that the BBC as a whole is a recognised worldwide brand), but that the service they receive will be top-notch too. Customers can enjoy free delivery on orders over £15, extensive FAQs and great customer service support throughout the ordering process. Finally, all users receive a regular email newsletter giving information on the latest promotions, offers and releases.

If you’re a big fan of BBC shows and programs and would like to pick up a few great audiobooks to add to your collection, this is definitely the place to come.
